2013 Championships

Well we didn’t really have much luck this year. In March the river was so high that it would have been dangerous to have the safety boats on the river, so we had to postpone the 30th World Championships until October (we’re not allowed the run the event when the river is busy during the summer), and then in October we had lovely weather while setting up on the Saturday, lovely sunshine on the evening of the 13th October, but HORRIBLE weather all day long!

But thank you very much to those of you who braved the rain. Nine teams and 96 individual competitors. You will see lots of smiles in the photo galleries.

Thank you to all the volunteers – Rotary and Rotaract members, Little Wittenham residents, and friends and family who all worked so hard. Thank you also to John and Joan Greening, our Rotary District Governor and his wife, for coming along to support us and to present the prizes.

It’s a fact: we all eat cake and drink tea whatever the weather! So with the teas and cake sales, and the ticket sales to the competitors, we did make a little bit of money for the following charities: Little Wittenham church, the RNLI, theOxford and District Schools Sailing Association and Rotary Shelterbox.
